I read a lot. I read tons of short articles on the internet at a pace that keeps my mind bouncing around like a Tennis ball at Wimbledon. I read every new post on the following sites everyday:
a few personal blogs that I’m not going to specifically mention. Some famous people, some not.
I also spend quite a bit of time on wiki and IMDB. I love reading “behind the scenes” tales of just about anything. The true life of a professional bowler, the details of a recording contract or that you only get $500 for appearing on HGTV’s show “House Hunters”. There are other details about the show that surprised me…I won’t waste your time re-posting them.
I try to keep a few books going as well. I just CRUSHED Tucker Max’s newest book “Hilarity Ensues” and have unleashed an equal decimation of Anthony Bourdain’s “Medium Raw”. I’m already in active pursuit of my next book to conquer. Something about history, perhaps…
Which brings me to why I’ve decided to start a blog. I’ve run out of interesting things to read online. I love reading the sites above, but it literally takes no more than 15 minutes of my days to read through the newest postings on the sites combined. Come on folks, TMZ ain’t every reading. In an effort to kill a little more time online and to give people like me another daily nugget to read, I thought it might be fun to write a blog. Truthfully, I’d like this to serve as a diary-surrogate. Something for me to look back on in a year or so and reminisce about this time of my life (explanation to follow in a post shortly) and possibly, some of you may find my plight or insights semi-entertaining.
A few quick words about me…
I am a 34 year old, unemployed father of 3. 2 boys (11 and 9 years old) and one girl (almost 10 weeks). I am divorced from the boys’ mother and am blissfully and madly in love with my daughter’s mother. We have entered into contract on a home that we hope to close on at the end of March. I lost my job of 8 years on December 19, 2011 over a mistake made by my non-subordinate assistant…basically a coworker. My world was turned upside down in an instant, but i recovered quickly and am 10 fold happier today than I was on December 18th.
I plan to write about how I got to where I am today. What it was like to lose my job, the perils of raising my boys in a broken home, the joys of fathering a daughter, the soon-to-come home renovation and the subsequent job search.
I love Inside the Actor’s Studio with James Lipton…I’ve always wanted to answer his questions at the end of the show. Here is the list (interestingly the list was originated by Bernard Pivot – James gives him credit – but the questions are slightly different from the originals)
- What is your favorite word?
Yes – usually followed by “father” or “sir”
- What is your least favorite word?
“I don’t know” – okay, that’s 3, but hearing that in response to my question drive me bat shit crazy.
- What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Learning. I love to learn about just about anything. Learning tends to lead towards new ways to be creative.
- What turns you off?
Indecisiveness. First and foremost.
- What is your favorite curse word?
Fuck. I use it like the smurfs use “smurfy”.
- What sound or noise do you love?
- What sound or noise do you hate?
My truck making any “uh oh” sound. It scares the hell out of me.
- What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Seeing as though I’m unemployed… I’d love to be a baseball scout.
- What profession would you not like to do?
Any position that manages employees. It was once a goal of mine and now I want to avoid it like the plague.
- If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
“Dellinger…um…Dellinger……Oh! You are on the list. Right this way, please.”
Stay tuned for more.
